Abutilon-Tiger Eye, Abutilon x hybridum âTiger Eyeâ
The exquisite blooms of this maple leaf-shaped perennial offer an incredible spectacleâexotic turbaned orange flowers with overlapping petals, intricate red veining, and red pistil. Evergreen, with boldly cut shiny leaves. Technically considered a tropical perennial, it actually can be hardy to 20°F when protected from windchill. It does well in full to partial sun with at least weekly watering in the Northern California summer. Once established, these plants can bloom almost year-round. These fast growers have an attractive rounded growth habit and can get to well over 6′ tall and 5′ wide, but can be pruned as desired. This is a versatile plant that can be used for borders, container growing, mass planting and slopes. The Abutilon plants are loved by butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees. Responds well to hard pruning in late winter.
