Jazz on the Farm This Sunday!

Lavender Daze are here! The labyrinth is turning purple and the spring flowers are popping! Come on out to the farm this weekend to enjoy the color and the fresh air, 10 AM to 4 PM here in Santa Rosa! We’re thrilled to have the John Kalleen Jazz Group playing in the Pavilion on Sunday, noon to 3 PM. Bring a picnic and enjoy jazz with lunch. There are still a few tickets left, available through the Online Store.

The John Kalleen Group is a classic ”Blue Note Era” jazz quintet! They offer fresh compositions, echoing the admired hard bop and post-bop eras of the 50s, 60s and 70’s but infused with a modern, dynamic spark. They deliver swinging, spirited arrangements of the classics from those eras. In an age of pickup bands, where “group performance” often means an assemblage of soloists trading licks, the JKG is instead a true ensemble, a quintet of musicians who rehearse and arrange together to create the kind of flowing, harmonious interplay, joyous power and full-bodied sound that comes only from a mutual, enduring dedication. Put more simply, the JKG is a tight, creative band that swings like mad and is a blast to listen to!

Lavender Daze is our way of celebrating the lavender bloom here on the farm. Bring your cameras for amazing photos, bring the kids so they can get outside and enjoy Nature, and bring yourself to soothe away the troubles of the week by steeping yourself in Beauty. You can check the 2023 Lavender Bloom Status page and those from previous years to see how the bloom is progressing.

Highlights of Lavender Daze

Jazz on the Farm with the John Kalleen Jazz Group: May 21, June 18, and July 2.
We’re thrilled to have the John Kalleen Jazz Group visiting the farm on three days during lavender bloom. Plan an outing to enjoy jazz on the farm.

Peak bloom in the labyrinth: Late May through mid-June.
The labyrinth lights up with brilliant purples, classic lavender, whites, and pinks as it comes into full bloom. Each circle in the labyrinth is a different variety of lavender–a beautiful sight to see!

The Lavender U-Cut Experience and Best-Dressed Contest: June 24-25, July 1-2, and July 8-9.
The French lavender variety Grosso is the best for long-lasting fragrance and we have a full acre of it! Grosso blooms a few weeks later than the labyrinth varieties, so peak time for these dates are the best for cutting. Dress your best to compete in the Best-Dressed Contest too, with great lavender prizes from the Farm Stand!

See you on the farm!

  1. Hello,
Your emails are arriving late, past the event you are promoting! Would have loved to come to jazz, but didn’t know about it until Monday after it happened!
    Thanks
    Margaret
