Learn About Lavender tours are just around the corner, Saturday, July 24, Saturday, July 31, and Sunday, August 1, from 9 -11 AM. There are a few slots left for all dates. Sign up through our Online Store. Join us to learn about growing and propagating lavender, selecting varieties, and harvesting and processing this amazingly fragrant and beautiful plant. After the tour, participants are welcome to stay for a bit, picnic in the Pavilion, walk the labyrinth, visit the geese, and check out the farm stand.
Activities on the farm these days are centered around lavender still! We have been harvesting the lavender in the labyrinth, doing distillations of lavender buds for oil and hydrosol, and potting up lavender plants we propagated from cuttings. These plants will be available for sale after our tours and on our fall open-farm pop-up days, dates TBA.
We’ll have fabulous Folgate, magnificient Munstead, regal Royal Velvet, and verdant Violet Intrigue, propagated from our own Lavender Labyrinth varieties. Fall is a good time to plant lavender, giving it time to grow some nice roots before winter sets in, preparing it to burst forth with new growth in the spring.
We’re pushing our main lavender harvest out to mid-August and will be sending a separate Farm News post about that in the next day or two. If you’re interested in doing some real farm labor (paid!), this is the event for you. It’s hard work though! Stay tuned for the next post if you’re interested.
