Farm Stand Sales Assistant Position

Bees N Blooms is seeking a Seasonal Farm Stand Sales Assistant to staff the Bees N Blooms Farm Stand and assist with harvest, sales and events at our CCOF-Certified Organic farm in southeast Santa Rosa. The farm has a diversity of integrated activities, including the production of cut flowers, lavender, vegetables, and ornamental trees. We also open the farm to the public and host events such as retreats, weddings, picnics, tour group visits, and more. We are looking for someone who loves interacting with people to run the farm stand and assist with events. Specifically, the work involves staffing the on-site farm stand, harvesting and preparing farm products for sale (flowers, lavender, vegetables, eggs, and honey), and assisting with events. The position is four days per week, 8 hours per day, on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, April 24 through September 2, 2019, with potential for continuing weekend work in September and October. We are open to hiring two people to share the position if needed, in order to accommodate class or other schedule conflicts.

Responsibilities:

The Seasonal Farm Stand Sales Assistant will be involved with harvest and sales on the farm and, as well as provide support for farm tours and events. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Staff the Bees N Blooms on-site farm stand on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday
  • Accurately manage and record all cash and credit card transactions.
  • Interact courteously with customers.
  • Maintain the farm stand space to keep it clean and functional.
  • Ensure sufficient quantities of farm stand documents (maps, business cards, brochures, etc.) are available.
  • Harvest and prepare farm products for sale (cut flowers, lavender, vegetables, plants, eggs, honey).
  • Be responsible for stocking the farm stand with additional non-farm items and maintaining inventory count.
  • Assist with event preparations.
  • Assist with farm tours and on-farm educational events.

Some flexibility in hours is possible, except between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. We are open to hiring two people to share the position if needed, in order to accommodate class or other schedule conflicts.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to interface well with the public and enjoy interactions with customers and farm guests.
  • Ability to maintain a professional and positive attitude
  • Capable of using Microsoft Word and Excel to print documents
  • Self-motivated, taking initiative to recognize and implement tasks that need to be done
  • Able to maintain a lively pace of work each day
  • Ability to work independently, as well as in a team setting.
  • Ability to lift loads of 30 lbs
  • Previous retail experience is a plus
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have a work visa
  • Must speak English well. Spanish language is a plus.

Compensation: The Seasonal Farm Stand Sales Assistant is an hourly, non-exempt position, part-time (32 hours per week) from April 24 through September 2, 2019, with potential for continuing weekend work in September and October. Pay rate is $13-$15 per hour, depending on experience.

 Anticipated start date: Must be available to start April 24, 2019.
