Coyote Mint-Russian River, Monardella villosa âRussian Riverâ
A long-blooming California Native, this fragrant perennial is easy to grow. Coyote mint does best in well-drained soil and produces spherical pink/purple flowers from spring to late summer. The foliage is a rich, shiny green that stays evergreen in winter. Frost tolerant. Deer resistant. A good source of pollen and nectar for bees and butterflies. Unlike most of the mint family, Coyote Mint doesnât send out
stolons and instead grows out semi-woody stems, which then fall over onto the ground and root into the ground, creating a new daughter plant that can be separated from the original. Prune back to prevent spread. Prune lightly in winter.
