Clary Sage, Salvia sclarea
Clary sage has broad sage-green leaves and tall 3 ft. spikes of large pink bracts surrounding blue and white flowers. Blooms in late spring/early summer. Can be harvested for an essential oil with a unique fragrance, containing many of the same components as lavender essential oils. Good for floral arrangements and dries to make a fragrant potpourri. Clary sage is a biennial, winter hardy to zone 4. Full sun to part shade, needs good drainage. Re-seeds readily. Deer resistant.
