Holidaze Open Farm Weekends at BNB

Mark your calendars! December 4 & 5 and 11 & 12, from 10AM to 3PM, Bees N Blooms will be open for two full weekends of holiday shopping and nature exploration.  Spend time in the labyrinth, visit the farm animals, take a tour of what we do on the farm in the winter, and browse through our lovely farm stand gift shop. Holiday gift sets, personal care products, culinary items, lavender plants, and other lovely lavender goods will be for sale. Our enchanted labyrinth and flower gardens are a special nature-getaway to take the family, or visit on your own for some mindful solitude. Whatever brings you to Bees N Blooms, we are happy to have visitors once again before the farm goes into hibernation for the winter.

GREEN is the color of the month! We are so grateful for the early rains. ‘Tis the season for planting our winter crops, growing winter-started vegetables, and planning for spring and summer flowers. Our family of 14 geese are beginning to mate and will be producing baby goslings in the early spring. In preparation for winter, we’ve been planting cover crops and maintaining a no-till environment for the soil microbiology to remain intact, as well as protecting habitat for native bees. Many native bees hibernate underground over the winter, so we do our best to limit soil disturbances. Cover crops allow us to work with nature to add vital nutrients and organic matter to the soil for future crops to grow tall and strong in the spring and summer time.

Learn About Fall Farm Activities

You can learn more about what happens on the farm at this time of year by doing a tour during our open-farm weekends. We’ll be doing two tours a day on each of the open-farm days, weather permitting: One at 11 AM and the other at 1 PM. Free, first-come, first serve. Limited to 15 people. Rain cancels.

And speaking of farming…

Welcome Rebecca Rosenzweig, our new Farm Manager!

Hailing from San Rafael, Rebecca has joined our dynamic farm ecosystem, adding brilliant knowledge, abundant passion and commitment to our shared vision of creating healthy ecosystems for all beings.

She was raised by two passionate gardeners who also love to cook, thus fostering in Rebecca a love for eating what is grown locally! It is evident that Rebecca is passionate about the right things with her vast experience in the Farm to Table movement. Her passion for connecting people to nature through the food they eat supports the realization that our food doesn’t originate from the grocery store, but from the farm. Rebecca is adamant about this and declares it her main passion and goal to help people understand how to eat in a Farm to Table setting, bringing humanity back into a healthy connection with the natural world. It is through our appetite where we can either support or destroy the natural world. We need this passionate vision more than ever!

Her career started in event management and after working for a catering company, she discovered vast amounts of food waste. She took a step back and decided to go back to the source of food, which is the source of our connection to nature. As Alice Waters once wisely said, “It’s that experience of actually putting your hands in the soil that makes the change.” This humbling experience changed the course of her life, moving her in the direction of farming and connecting people to the land through the food they eat. Working as a Farmer’s Market manager, chef for Sagra at Stemple Creek Ranch, and being a culinary farmer for Meadowood Restaurant reinforced that she was on the right track.

Now, Bees N Blooms is lucky to have Rebecca on the team. We look forward to having her farm-to-table experience to share with our visitors and our Friends of the Labyrinth members. We are thankful for Rebecca and we hope you all get a chance to meet her when you visit during our upcoming open farm weekends.

Once again, we will be open December 4-5 and December 11-12, from 10am to 3pm. We look forward to seeing you on the farm!
