We’re tucked in for the winter here at Bees N Blooms, with all of the cover crops planted and some new event space under construction. It’s muddy here now, which if you are a duck, makes you VERY happy! If you are a human . . . not so much. But we love the rain, so it’s worth it!
To ward off the winter chill, we are hosting a Honey Tasting Event here at Bees N Blooms from 2-4 PM on Sunday, January 12, 2020. You are invited! Tickets are available at our EventBrite page.
Need a last-minute Christmas gift? Buy a ticket for yourself and one for a friend, and join us as we gather in the BNB Event Center with a roaring fire, snacks and tea, and many interesting honeys to taste.
We’ll start with a brief introduction to honey: The difference between mono-varietals vs mixed honeys, characteristics of honey and how bees make it, how honey is harvested, different uses of honey, and the seasonal differences in nectars in Sonoma County. You will learn how to use the UC Davis Honey Flavor Wheel to characterize honeys.
You’ll then hear from four different Sonoma County beekeepers, learning about their apiaries and landscapes that contribute to the unique flavor of the honey their bees make. See our Meet the Beekeepers page for more info.
- Christine Kurtz, Secret Garden Apiary
- Clayton Cook, Straight Line Bee Company
- John McGinnis, Buzz Off Honey
- Susan Kegley, Bees N Blooms
We’ll then sample the different honeys and compare notes, then try out a few mono-varietal honeys for comparison.
We hope to see you there!
