We were pleased to meet so many people over the Labor Day weekend. It was wonderful to reconnect with old friends, make new ones, and meet distant cousins for the first time! Our thanks to Meg McConahey and the photo team at the Press Democrat for the wonderful article, photos, and drone video that let people know about Bees N Blooms. As I read the article, I felt that I got way too much credit for the work that has gone into making the farm what it is today. Much of the credit goes to my husband Geoff, our farm manager Seth, and the very talented local contractors and suppliers who helped make it all happen. We’re grateful that our visitors enjoyed spending time on the farm and hope to see you all again soon!
Speaking of which, we’re looking forward to our next open-farm weekend on October 13-14 from 10 AM to 4 PM for Sonoma County’s Farm Trails. Come and walk the lavender labyrinth, check out the ducks, see how we prep our organic flower farm for winter, and learn what the bees are doing at this time of year from members of the Sonoma County Beekeepers Association.
On Sunday of Farm Trails weekend, October 14, we’ll have a real treat—the John Kalleen Group playing jazz from 12-3. The Taqueria Cazadores food truck will be on site, so you can buy lunch, listen to jazz, hang out with your friends and simply enjoy some time on the farm. The weather forecast looks great, and with the rain we’ve had, we might even have a little green on the fields.
At the farm stand, we’ll have lots of baby lavender plants and other fall-planted bee-friendly plants that need a home, as well as lavender and lavender products from Bees N Blooms, Monte Bellaria Lavender Farm and Bear Remedies. Fall is a great time for planting new trees, and our bee-friendly certified organic trees are ready to go in the ground—red-flowering gum, honey locust, and linden trees waiting just for you.
Registration: Be sure to register at the Farm Trails registration website to receive the full list of participating farms and a detailed program, along with a link to an interactive online map to help you chart your own adventure. It’s free and helps the organizers track participation in the weekend events.
Parking: Follow the signs to enter through the farm gate, then follow the signs for parking on the farm. There are a few parking spaces in front of the farm stand, but please do not park on the side of Petaluma Hill Road south of the mailbox. Towing is a possibility if you do! Carpool if you can.
