Valentine’s Day Flowers and Gifts!

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, and Bees N Blooms and SideKick Flowers are teaming up to provide beautiful gifts for your special person! The farm stand will be open on Saturday and Sunday, February 11 and 12, from 11 AM to 5 PM. We’ll have lavender-themed gift sets, and Sidekick Flowers will be offering Valentine bouquets filled with the first flowers of the season—tulips, ranunculus, and more! Surprise your sweetie by bringing some early spring beauty indoors. If you would like to reserve a bouquet, there will be limited quantities available through our online store.  Or swing by the farm stand over the weekend to see what’s available.

If you’d rather have a flowering potted plant, you might want to consider some of Bees N Blooms Aviv Ranunculus. As beautiful as roses, these Persian Buttercup plants produce prolific, peony-like blooms for 4-6 weeks in early to mid-Spring. While these plants will not be blooming for Valentine’s Day, they will provide long-lasting blooms in a few weeks. Ranunculus works as a potted plant indoors or you can plant multiples in your garden to spectacular effect! Volume discount of 20% off on 12 or more plants. We have 4 varieties: Aviv Pink–a robust pink , Aviv Gold–eye-catching yellow-gold, Aviv Purple–intense deep burgundy, and Aviv Rose–salmon pink. Ideal for cutting, with long stems, large flowers measuring 3-5″ across, and long vase life!

Garden Workshop Series: Seed Starting, February 11, from 10-noon

Also this weekend, we have the next in our series of Garden Workshops, Seed Starting. We’ll start in the Event Center with an overview of strategies and tools for successful seed starting, do a quick tour of the Bees N Blooms seed-starting space to look at equipment, then move to the greenhouse to plant our trays. Bring your own seeds or help us sow some of our own. We provide a tray with a selection of cell sizes and seed starter mix for planting. Come prepared to get a little dirty! Crops that make sense to plant at this time of year include:

  • Peppers and tomatoes for summer
  • Cool-season crops like lettuce, kale, chard, bok choi
  • Onions from seed
  • Herbs like cilantro, parsley, chives, oregano and thyme
  • Peas
  • Flowers that need a little chill before they sprout
    -Rudbeckia
    -Milkweed
    -Goldenrod
    -Poppies
    -and more!

Hope to see you on the Farm!
