Honey Locust

The Honey Locust (Gleditsia triacanthos) is a fast-growing tree with fragrant, pollinator-friendly spring flowers. Its delicate, open silhouette creates dappled shade that allows grass to grow underneath even the largest tree. Tiny leaflets turn yellow or yellow-green in fall. Grows in Zones 3-9. Prefers even watering and well-drained soil, but tolerates occasional drought. Adapts to a wide range of soils, including clay, alkaline or acidic soils. Pollution, salt and drought tolerance make this  tree a good choice for street trees or city parks.  Prefers full sun. Grows to 30′ to 70′, 50′ spread.
