Why Is Organic Important?

Choosing Certified Organic plants means choosing pesticide-free habitat and forage for pollinators—and a healthier landscape for people too. Many pesticide chemicals used in conventional nursery plant production persist in plants long after they are treated, with the chemical showing up in the pollen and nectar of the flowers for weeks to months after treatment. Many are highly toxic to insects. This means that the bees and butterflies that drink the nectar and eat the pollen can be poisoned by ornamental plants grown with pesticides. In perennial plants like trees and shrubs, pesticides can persist for years. Some common classes of pesticides that fit this description include neonicotinoid insecticides, anthranilic diamide insecticides, and pyrethroid insecticides, as well as certain fungicides.

If you want to protect pollinators and avoid these pesticides, look for certified organic plants. Check out our post on Why Your Garden Needs Organic Pollinator Plants for more details.

Our Commitment to Nature & You

Bees N Blooms grows certified organic nursery plants that are good for pollinators and for your gardens. We produce trees, some unique lavender varieties, California native plants, spring vegetable starts, and pollinator-attractive ornamental landscaping plants that provide clean, pesticide-free forage for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, as well as beauty for your landscape. Download our CCOF-issued organic certificate here.

Some of our plants are sourced from other nurseries, in order to meet the requests of our customers. While we do our best to find certified organic plant starts, they are not always available, so we do have plants in the nursery that are not yet certified organic. We make sure all plants are clearly labeled so you know which plants are organic. We handle all of our plants under organic growing conditions, and based on experimental data, we feel confident that by the time these plants bloom, they will be safe for pollinators.

We grow pollinator and bird-friendly crops and dedicate land to wildlife habitat.
